Black Forest Star Party

• Dates: September 11–13, 2026

• Details: Hosted annually by the Central Pennsylvania Observers, the Black Forest Star Party brings amateur and professional astronomers together for a full weekend of dark sky observation. One of the most respected star parties on the East Coast.

Private Dark Sky Telescope Tour: Shamans and Saints

• Date: Friday, October 2, 2026

• Time: 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM

• Location: Night Sky Public Viewing Area

• Cost: $27 per person

Sunday Stargazing

• Date: Sunday, October 11, 2026

• Time: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Regular Weekend Programs

Free laser-guided night sky tours and telescope sessions run on select weekends throughout the year, weather and volunteer availability permitting. Programs typically slow down in late fall and winter. Check the official DCNR Calendar for current scheduling before you make the drive.

Visitor Tips

• Red light only: White light from phones or flashlights destroys night vision fast. Bring a red-light flashlight, or cover yours with red cellophane.

• No pets or alcohol: Pets (except trained service animals) and alcohol are not permitted in public areas.

• Weather dependent: Events are canceled if it rains, thunders, or clouds over heavily. Check conditions before heading out.
